Why aren't there any killer sharks in the Mediterranean?
- THE QUESTIONER has obviously never been to a carpet shop on the Turkish coastline.
Ian Neill, Istanbul.
- I HAVE no idea, but I think I ran into one the other day on Bay Street. I don't know if he was from the Mediterranean but he had a tan and he wore sunglasses (mirrored). His name was Bryce. He has pals. If you want to know more, you'll have to find out for yourself. (Jimustud@aol.com)

- THERE ARE, if one likes the term "killer". For reference, read my recent paper, Distribution and autoecology of the great white shark in the NE Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, Chapter 30 in "Great White Sharks: Ecology and Behaviour", (AP Klimley & DG Ainley, Eds.), Academic Press. Virtually all of my academic research has focused on this and other species of shark within Mediterranean waters. We also curate MEDSAF, the Mediterranean Shark Attack File, here at the European Shark Research Bureau.
