Animal rights activists slam ZuGoPet dog car harnesses

Animals rights activists have slammed an American company that manufactures special car seat harnesses for small dogs.

ZuGoPet's promotional videos show cute silky terriers, a dachshund and a cocker spaniel strapped to the back seat.

They also show crash test dummy pooches being thrown forward in smash when they aren't restrained to make the case for their pet restraints.

'It's not comfortable for the dog, it's not safe for the dog and you'll probably find that they'll be panicking,' the group's Auckland-based head vet Jessica Beer told Fairfax Media's Stuff website.
