Blow-dry Hack: 5-minute Hair Trick Going Viral On TikTok

Blow-dry enthusiasts, listen up…

We love TikTok for many, many reasons. We've never learnt so many simple dinner recipes, beauty hacks (although it's a hard no to putting our foundation on over clingfilm. Seriously, don't ask), fitness routines or dating tips all in one place before, and that's not even touching on the catchy tunes we've got the app to thank for. In fact, we can't think of a week that has gone by over the past few years, where we haven't up-leveled something in our life due to a video we've watched on the social media platform.

And this week, we're obsessed with a 5-minute hair hack that has gone viral on the app for showing us how to create a ‘flippy blow-dry’ (aka. the influencer hairstyle of dreams) in just five minutes. For those who would rather master the technique themselves, rather than relying on others, we're here for you, we see you, we are you - but this new, simple hack has our back.

The video was shared by TikToker @yazblends, a hairstylist herself, just three days ago and has already been viewed over six million times, racked up thousands of comments and over half a million likes from hair muggles like us who haven't got the faintest clue about how to blow-dry our hair any other way about from dead straight.

“Wow, this looks similar to the Dyson Air Wrap but doesn't cost $600,” wrote one excited follower, while another added: “I've been wasting so much time curling [my hair] with a round brush.”

Paul Mitchell himself, the professional hair stylist and creator of a cult line of hair products, commented: “Oh this is good."

The technique is, as the title of the video suggests, an easy way of achieving a bouncy, flicky blow-dry that's ideal for any everyday look or a low-key, but super-effective, evening style.

So, here's how you do it:

  • Split the hair into two sections and twist it away from your face.
  • Make sure your hairdryer is on hot, before running it down over the twists and then let it set for 1-2 minutes.
  • Untwist the hair and run your fingers through it gently to release the twists. Go G
  • Go about your day looking as though you've just walked out of a salon.
  • That's literally it. Seriously, how easy is that?!

And if you're wondering whether this hack also works on long layers, one user assures us that it does, all you need to do is making sure that you're also constantly twisting the hair while it's still really wet before you blow-dry.

Prior to actually getting the hairdryer out, it’s also important to wait until your hair is at least 50-80% dry to reduce heat exposure.

But if frizz is an issue or if you have grey hair that tends to be coarse then don’t rough dry your hair or let it air dry too much.

We'd also recommend adding some heat protector ahead of starting the blow-dry process, making sure to gently detangle any knots before evenly distributing the product. Then, to finish, we're big fans of adding a little spritz of hairspray, especially if you have longer and/or thicker hair or want your newfound bounce to last all day (Yaz herself talks about using good quality products before and after a blow-dry in some of her other TikTok videos).

In fact, user @garmediamante, advises those who do follow this hack to add the hairspray while your hair is still in the twists.

For now though,  all we need is a wind machine and we're ready to give it our best Beyoncé impression. Thanks TikTok, how did we ever get by without you?
