Wayward Pines Season 2 Casts Jason Patric in Leading Role

The second installment of “Wayward Pines” will star Jason Patric, Variety has learned.

“The Lost Boys” alum will play Dr. Theo Yedlin, a confident, driven surgeon whose leadership skills will prove invaluable to the residents of Wayward Pines.

Season 2 of Fox‘s breakout psychological thriller from M. Night Shyamalan is set to return this summer with 10 episodes.

“Jason is an incredibly grounded and believable actor,” said Shyamalan. “I’m so excited for audiences to see what he brings to the world of ‘Wayward Pines.'”

The first season starred Matt Dillon. In the finale, his character Ethan died, along with a number of other key characters, making room for a new star when Fox announced that the drama — which was originally intended to be an event series — had been renewed. The pickup did not come as a total surprise, however, given the show’s success. (It ranked as the summer’s No. 1 scripted broadcast series among adults 18-49, averaging a multi-platform audience of 9.4 million viewers for the season.)

The new season picks up after the events of the first season with the residents of Wayward Pines battling against the iron-fisted rule of the First Generation. Dr. Yedlin (Patric) awakens from suspended animation and finds himself in the middle of this rebellion as he tries to understand what Wayward Pines really is and to help preserve the endangered human race.

“Wayward Pines” is based on Blake Crouch’s best-selling series of books. He returns as an exec producer for Season 2, along with Shyamalan, Donald De Line, Ashwin Rajan and Mark Friedman. Showrunner Chad Hodge departed after last season.

Patric has also appeared in “Narc” and “Rush.” He recently wrapped “The Yellow Birds” opposite Jennifer Aniston and Toni Collette. He is repped by Link Entertainment and the Gersh Agency
